Today, for a sixth consecutive year, Tenaris has been recognized as worldsteel Sustainability Champion, as a result of its commitment to decarbonization and sustainability initiatives. “For Tenaris, sustainability is a journey of continuous improvement. It is not a choice, but a responsibility,” says Paolo Rocca.
Worldsteel is a global industry association that represents steel producers around the world. The organization’s sustainability champion program recognizes steel companies that have demonstrated leadership in sustainability and environmental stewardship, with demonstrated performance data for six of the worldsteel sustainability indicators including: material efficiency, environmental management systems, lost time injury frequency rates, employee training, investment in new processes and products, and economic value distributed. To be elected, companies must also publish an annual sustainability-related report to qualify for the award.
Tenaris’s decarbonization strategy aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by 30 percent by 2030, compared to 2018 levels. "An essential part of our role is to reduce the carbon emissions from our operations as quickly as technology and market conditions allow,” said Paolo Rocca in the Chairman’s Letter of the Tenaris 2022 Sustainability Report, and he explained around 30% of Tenaris’s capex is now being directed to projects that will contribute to this target and other environmental objectives, such as the wind farm in Argentina, energy efficiency investments in Italy and Argentina and air quality improvements at the Koppel steel shop in the United States.
