Tenaris is participating in ADIPEC 2024, hosted in Abu Dhabi from November 4 to 7. One of the world’s leading energy events, the exhibition brings together industry leaders, experts, and innovators to address the sector's most pressing challenges, with a strong focus on sustainability and decarbonization.
On the opening day, Gabriel Podskubka, Tenaris Chief Operating Officer, joined a strategic panel discussion titled “Optimising Operations to Advance Decarbonisation: A Digital and Cultural Shift.” Alongside industry leaders Adnan Bu Fateem, Chief Operating Officer at Mubadala Energy; Richard Ward, EVP Field Operations at Weatherford; Naïla Giovanni, Chief Digital and Information Officer at Technip Energies; and Christophe de Maistre, President of the Energies & Chemicals segment at Schneider Electric; the session explored how the energy sector is leveraging digital transformation and cultural alignment to meet decarbonization goals.
The panelists agreed that while advanced technologies, data-driven insights, and process improvements can contribute to reducing emissions across the value chain, achieving meaningful decarbonization demands deeper cultural shift and cross-industry collaboration.
"At Tenaris, we are true believers that sustainability and decarbonization support our business strategy. These are key priorities for our leadership, our employees, our communities, and our customers. Today, our carbon emissions intensity is the lowest in our sector, and we are investing to ensure it remains so in the future. At Tenaris, we see decarbonization not only as the right thing to do, but as a sound business decision. It’s an opportunity for us to continue leading in another dimension of our business,” highlighted Podskubka.
Another relevant insight shared by Podskubka was the role of communication in amplifying decarbonization efforts and the importance of building an ecosystem of partners, working closely with suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders. “You need a vision, measurable targets and a strong leadership that is willing to convert this vision into reality. After communicating our decarbonization commitment, we focused on defining KPIs for measuring emissions of our processes at every site. We now communicate both internally and externally on our progress and initiatives to reduce our CO2 emissions intensity per ton of steel by 30% by 2030”, concluded Podskubka.
He also shared the projects deployed across Tenaris’s global manufacturing network to achieve this goal, including the recently installed electric arc furnace with Consteel® technology in Argentina, as well as solar power generation projects in China , Italy, and Romania and two wind farms in Argentina.
