Axpo Italia, a leader in the renewable energy sector, has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Tenaris, through which Axpo will supply Dalmine, Tenaris’s seamless steel pipe mill in Italy, with 15 GWh per year of certified green energy.
"This contract marks another step in our transition towards more sustainable production. The decision to source green energy reflects our commitment to integrating low-environmental-impact solutions into our production processes, contributing to the reduction of the company's carbon footprint," said Michele Della Briotta, President of Tenaris in Europe.
"The commitment of a leading company like Tenaris over a medium-long term horizon demonstrates the will to place a conscious vision of corporate sustainability at the heart of its development, while also contributing concretely to the establishment of new renewable production plants in Italy," added Simone Demarchi, CEO of Axpo Italia.
In line with its 2030 decarbonization goal, Tenaris is continuously looking for alternatives to reduce emissions across its global manufacturing network. This agreement complements other significant ongoing initiatives in Italy, such as the electrolyzer project with Snam and Tenova for on-site hydrogen production, and the Recovering Metals and Mineral Fraction (ReMFra) research project, co-funded by the European Commission, which aims to recover residues from the steel production process for reuse, promoting circular practices. Additionally, two solar parks are under construction in Italy and are scheduled to become operational in the coming months.
Other major initiatives across the world include an electric arc furnace with Consteel® technology at the Siderca industrial center, two wind farms in Argentina, a new electric induction coil for the upsetting line at TuboCaribe in Colombia, as well as solar power generation projects in China and Romania.
