Innovation and dedication are the driving forces behind turning ideas into reality, and Cristina Fazacas, Environment Regional Manager for Tenaris in Romania, certainly exemplifies this mindset. With a career driven by curiosity and a proactive approach, Cristina has become a pivotal leader in advancing the company’s environmental initiatives while balancing her professional and family life.
Cristina's journey at Tenaris began in 2007, but her desire to make a tangible impact on the environment started well before that. After studying environmental engineering at the University of Oradea, she spent three years working for the Environmental Protection Agency in Zalău. However, she quickly realized that her true passion lies in directly addressing environmental challenges. "My activity was highly theoretical," Cristina explains. "I wanted a hands-on approach to environmental issues, so I joined Silcotub, Tenaris’s pipe manufacturing mill in Romania, in 2007. I wanted to be part of the change and to lead actions that really mattered."
Her early days at Tenaris weren’t without challenges, but her persistence and curiosity propelled her forward. Starting as an environmental analyst, Cristina advanced by remaining open to learning and embracing new opportunities. "I just worked hard and remained curious," she recalls. "That curiosity allowed me to develop my career and reach the position I’m in today."
A key component of her growth at Tenaris has been her connection to a global team, which Cristina views as a major advantage. "Being global allows us to find new solutions to our common problems. Tenaris helps us broaden our vision, because we may have many issues to solve, but we are never alone," she says, highlighting the importance of collaboration and shared knowledge within the company.
As her role grew, so did her responsibilities, including leading a team. Reflecting on her leadership style, Cristina is candid about the challenges she has faced. "With deadlines and various problems requiring solutions, I often find myself wishing for more time to connect with my team and support their overall wellbeing."
Cristina is also proud to be part of Tenaris’s decarbonization efforts , a mission she describes with enthusiasm. "Romania is really engaged in the decarbonization strategy," she says. "At Tenaris, we don’t just discuss ideas or wish for something better: we make it happen. We can all see the investments and projects the company is implementing to foster a more sustainable future."
Outside of work, Cristina enjoys spending time with her family, balancing her career with her role as a mother to a 15-year-old son. "We enjoy traveling together, and I have a passion for photography, capturing the beauty of the places we visit," she says.
Her advice for young professionals entering the field? "Be curious," Cristina emphasizes. "This field is incredibly broad. Being open to learning is essential because environmental management requires understanding and managing a lot of information from different departments."
