Following a $40 million USD investment, Tenaris is bolstering its fracking capabilities in Argentina with the addition of a second hydraulic fracking set for Vaca Muerta, one of the largest reservoirs for shale gas in the world.
The new equipment will increase Tenaris’s well completion capacity in Vaca Muerta, after the acquisition of the first hydraulic fracking set back in 2021. Tenaris is now positioned as the third most important provider of fracking services in the local market, with a fully booked schedule for the rest of 2024.
"Argentina can strengthen its position as a global player through the development of its natural resources,” said Javier Martínez Álvarez, Tenaris president for the Southern Cone. “At Tenaris we have been supporting the growth of the local energy market and this is a key project to consolidate our offer of fracking services and increase production of non-conventional hydrocarbons in the region."
Manufactured almost entirely in country, this second fracking equipment also involved the acquisition of twenty 3,000 HHP pumps produced locally, strengthening the Argentine value chain in Vaca Muerta. To start operations, the components of both sets were combined so that the units have an output of 52,000 HHP each.
